Newsletter - Summer 2010
Facebook, twitter and emails have taken the place of our normal letters and because of this, I know that not everyone is getting our reports. Sorry about that. Do get onto our electronic mailing list. it is by far the cheapest and fastest way of communication.
These days have been quite busy and yet very rewarding as the cell groups in our church have become quite active in social involvement, by meeting the needs of those in crisis. It is good to see the people looking outward and getting their hands dirty, instead of just feeling pity for those in distress. Last week, one of our cells painted and repaired the house of an older lady in need as well as filled her pantry with food. Another cell got involved in a home for AIDS infected children. Still another bought and delivered a wheel chair for a poor woman who has been housebound because of a stroke. The testimonies go on and on. In March, I challenged our cell groups with this type of preaching and we have seen some great results.
We have so enjoyed the G12 cell model of church life we have adopted. It has brought so many of the members of the church into meaningful relationships and responsible leadership. One of our theme phrases is “every believer a leader”. Last week we had baptisms and one of the ladies that were baptized is a believer for less than a year, has been through our school of leaders and is a very fruitful leader of a cell group. Most church statistics boast of 10% involvement in ministry by the members, but not so with the cell church, perhaps only 10% are not involved.
Though the local church occupies much of our time and focus, we are still reaching beyond our borders into a number of other countries. A couple of weeks ago we took a team into Morocco. We have been investing into this nation for over fifteen years now. We have seen many changes over the years, for the good, but in the last few months a new wave of persecution has rocked the church and missionaries in that nation. Over 100 foreign missionaries have been expelled and the local Christians harassed and intimidated. Our work there has continued and we believe God’s hand is covering and protecting our people. We felt it necessary to be on site in prayer and to declare the eternal Word of God over this dear nation. Times of shaking brings change as does plowing the field prepare the land for the desired fruit. The Moroccan Christians have gained a new boldness through this shaking and I believe it will eventually work for the good of the Kingdom of God. The trip was a success and the team was greatly used to establish Truth in the land. Because of the sensitivity of the country, we cannot be specific in all we do, but just to say the Spirit of the Lord cannot be contained or restricted.
There are several upcoming trips that we need your prayer support. One is to South Africa and Mozambique in the fall. The South African part of the trip is to participate in an all African conference for G12 cell churches. I will be bringing with me some of our pastors from Angola and the Congo. From there we will go into Mozambique to minister in a number of churches. We have ministered to a number of Mozambicans over the years, while they were in Lisbon, and now they want us to come to them. It is amazing the power of a seed. The time we sowed into their lives when they were among us in Portugal has produced fruit in a number of churches they have started. This will be my first time to go to Mozambique, but I know not my last. One of the pastors who work with us in Lisbon is from Mozambique and he will be traveling with us as well.
In November, Helen and I, plus some others we are discipling in missions, will travel to China and then into Siberia, Russia. We will be ministering in a conference in the Northern part of China, (Manchuria), along with our Russian contacts and then ministering in another conference in Siberia. These conferences are for the training of leaders and the preparation of the Chinese to evangelize along the old Silk Road back to Jerusalem. We feel so privileged to participate in what the Lord is doing in these two great nations. In the past, they were so closed, but now, through the grace of God, are open and prospering in the Gospel. It is still restrictive in China, but, with God’s help, possible.
Our holidays this year will be spent in the States, visiting our children and grandchildren as well as Helen’s family. We will be there first two weeks of September. We will take advantage of being in the U.S. and have our annual S.I.M. board meeting while in Harrisonville, Mo. We would love to see as many of you as possible, so let us know your availability. Our schedule is: August 30th -2nd of September in NYC; 2nd -9th of Sept. in Dallas, OR.; 9th -16th of Sept. in Harrisonville, MO. and then back home on the 17th. Then the 22nd of Sept. to the 8th of October in Africa. The 22nd-24th of October is annual Iberian Peninsula Convention in Lisbon, 28th-31st of October in England. The 10th-25th of November in China and Russia.
These are big steps of faith for us and ones that require much investment. We are pioneer missionaries at heart in that we go into new and difficult fields to prepare the way for others to follow. Where we mainly go requires that we fit the bill, so do join your faith with ours for the finances. There are many doors open to us for the Gospel at this time and so we keep on our knees to get direction as to the ones we are to walk through as well as the timing.
Keep us in your hearts and prayers and thank you so much for your friendship and support.
In His Service,
Jim and Helen Reimer
